14 DAY TRIAL // Mother Monster Lady Gaga has found her significant other, with whom she wants to spend the rest of her life. On the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day, she and actor Taylor Kinney got engaged.
The two have been dating for almost 4 years, after meeting on the set of her music video “You & I.” Since day one, they struggled to keep their romance out of the spotlight.
A Valentine’s Day proposal
Word of the engagement started making the rounds online yesterday, after Valentine’s Day weekend. Several publications confirmed the happy news with insiders from Gaga’s camp, but not a single one was able to get confirmation from the singer herself or her publicist.
Luckily, Gaga doesn’t like to keep her Little Monsters, which is what she calls her fans, in the dark where she’s concerned, so she took to Instagram to break the news.
She posted a photo of a gorgeous, heart-shaped diamond ring on her hand, with the caption, “He gave me his heart on Valentine's Day, and I said YES!” Sure, she doesn’t say the actual “engaged” word, but that’s close enough: there really can’t be any mistaking to the meaning of the ring.
Us Weekly reports that, after the surprise proposal, Gaga and Taylor celebrated at her family’s restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Presumably, the celebration also included family members.
A low-key romance
Gaga and Taylor met in 2011, when he was cast as her love interest in the “You & I” music video. For some scenes in it, Gaga actually wore her mother’s wedding dress, which, in retrospect, could be seen as a sign that they were meant for each other.
They started dating shortly after the video wrapped, but broke up in May 2012 as their schedules proved too much of an obstacle. However, one month later, they reconciled.
In more recent months, they became more open towards the media as regards their relationship, with Gaga even saying in one interview that she knew Taylor was “the one” for her. She even talked about the possibility of getting married, which, for her, was a novelty.
Kinney too spoke highly of his girlfriend, calling her in an April 2014 interview an inspiration to all, including himself, from the way she did business and conducted herself in public and in private, to the fact that she dedicated a lot of her time and hard-earned money to charity.
As of the time of writing, the two are yet to announce a wedding date.
