Singer says fashion and glitziness don’t come cheap

Lady Gaga’s wicked fashion sense has either been praised and hailed as the freshest, most original and shockingly unique appearance of the past decade, or heavily criticized for being nothing but tacky play-pretend, in a vain attempt to cause a stir. Whichever it might be, it has ruined her financially, the singer herself admits to The Sun in a new interview.

Stilettos, fancy teacups, futuristic hats, leather gloves and out of this world outfits don’t come too cheap, as one might have easily imagined. In fact, as Gaga herself puts it, they are so expensive that they have often run her in debt, up to the point of seeing herself as bankrupt. Until now, Lady Gaga has found herself close to penniless on no less than four separate times – and she estimates the fourth will not be the last either.

“I’ve gone bankrupt about four times now. My manager wants to shoot me. Every dollar I earn goes on the show. Now we’re finally getting to a place where it’s not bankruptcy.” Gaga reveals for the British publication. However, since she’s currently preparing to go on a tour (with none other than Kanye West, of whom she has nothing but kind words to say), chances are she’ll be throwing money on outfits once more. “Then again, with another tour coming up soon I’ll probably be homeless again.” Gaga jokes.

Granted, few are those who might have thought that the kind of fashion choices Gaga makes are anything but expensive. With designers like Jean-Paul Gaultier rushing to be among those who dress her – and even creating an entire line inspired by her style – it’s no wonder that the singer spends a lot on just being Gaga. Still, her statement that she has gone bankrupt because of it is highly debatable, since it’s a known fact that celebrities, once a certain popularity “quota” reached, are being offered designer items for free in exchange of wearing them in public, which Lady Gaga does.

Speaking of Gaga’s music, which is perhaps of the utmost concern to her fans, the star also reveals in the same interview that working with Kanye will be her best collaboration so far. “I can’t give any details [about the tour], but it will be one of the most important moments in music ever. I truthfully adore Kanye. I always poke fun at him and joke around. We have a lovely creative relationship. He’s so sweet. I can’t say enough good things. He’s undeniably brilliant.” the singer explains.
