Lady Gaga continues to plug her latest album, “The Fame Monster,” which came out just recently, to the maximum. During an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres, the eccentric artist not only performed two of her latest songs, “Bad Romance” and “Speechless,” but also offered some insight as to what drives her to make music and tour and, in short, pursue a career in showbiz, as People magazine also informs.

If compared to the performances she put on other shows or, even better, at awards ceremonies and live events, Gaga’s appearance on Ellen was mellow, to put it mildly. She still managed to impress though with her rendition of “Speechless,” a slow-paced track from “The Fame Monster” dealing with love and heartbreak, where she got to put her vocals on full display. “Bad Romance,” on the other hand, saw her move around more, as she kept up with the backup dancers – and Ellen herself, who cut in at the end.

When talking of how she came up with her onstage persona, the outrageous Lady Gaga who never fails to shock and polarize people’s opinions, revealed that her main motivation was to show people that being different was not reason to be or feel marginalized. “I didn’t fit in in high school and I felt like a freak. So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with and they don’t feel alone. The whole point of what I do – The Monster Ball, the music, the performance aspect of it – I want to create a space for my fans where they can feel free and they can celebrate,” the singer explained for the talk show host.

“This is really who I am, and it took a long time to be okay with that. Maybe in high school you, Ellen, you feel discriminated against. Like you don’t fit in and you want to be like everyone else, but not really, and in the inside you want to be like Boy George – well, I did anyway. So I want my fans to know that it’s okay. Sometimes in life you don’t always feel like a winner, but that doesn't mean you’re not a winner, you want to be like yourself. I want my fans to know it’s okay,” Gaga further said.

The secret to reaching self-acceptance is to let all those who see you as a misfit know that someone out there does think you belong, the singer also said. As noted above, aside from this message, Gaga also delivered pitch-perfect performances of “Speechless” and “Bad Romance,” both of which you can enjoy below.
