Little did any of us know but about six months ago we almost lost Lady Gaga as a pop singer and entertainer. The singer recently admitted that she was very close to quitting music after her latest album “ArtPop” got mixed reviews from fans and critics.

In an interview with Parade Magazine, Lady Gaga opens up about her career’s ups and downs and how the recent album nearly made her leave the music industry for good. “Six months ago I didn't even want to sing any more. I was so sad. I couldn't sleep. I felt dead.”

Lady Gaga was depressed, almost quit music because of poor album sales

She has blamed the failure of her album on people from her label and people close to her that had betrayed her, “I'm not going to say any names, but people get irrational when it comes to money. If you help an artist, it doesn't give you the right, once the artist is big, to take advantage of them.”

It turns out that Gaga's salvation and the only reason you can still see her on stage today is because Tony Bennett, the legendary jazz singer, convinced her it was worth staying in the spotlight. It was only after she teamed up with Bennett for the album “Cheek to Cheek” that she decided against quitting music.

Working with Tony Bennett was a wakeup call for the singer who decided to keep on making music

Today, she credits Tony with saving her “life” and her career, “I tell Tony every day that he saved my life. He wanted nothing but my friendship and my voice.” The 88-year-old singer, who's had his own ups and downs seems to have been enough of a mentor and a role model for Gaga, as to shed a positive light on her career.

Lady Gaga was also impressed with the fact that Tony Bennett didn't ask her to take off her crazy outfits, he accepted her for who she was. She quotes him admiringly, “Be yourself,” and adds “That's what Tony has taught me, that my intuition is right.”

Gaga has also been recently blasted for gaining weight, after sporting a slim figure for years. She spoke out on the attacks and told everyone she loved the new her, adding “I'd rather be fat than shallow,” taking a swing at the current trend in the musical industry to only promote a thin physique.

Recently, Lady Gaga also got into another argument, this time with Madonna, who claimed that Gaga was a copycat, but a poor version at best, “two steps behind” her at every point.
