LaCie has long been an independent maker of various computing storage devices, but this doesn't meant it has anything against collaborations, as proven by its most recent press release.

Over the years, quite a few storage units have been delivered for both the consumer and enterprise markets.

As far as the former goes, there are internal and external ones, many of which are portable and, since they are always in full view, exhibit a certain attention to design on the part of their creators.

As such, external SSDs and HDDs range from unassuming, simple-looking to extravagant enclosures inspired by sports cars.

In this instance, LaCie collaborated with Porsche Design and made the portable P9220 Mobile and the not-so-portable P9230 Desktop drives. Their cases are made of scratch-resistant aluminum and bereft of visual embellishments.

The former is thin and light, while the latter sacrifices mobility in favor of raw storage space, though this much could be guessed form their names alone.

Speaking of capacities, the 1 TB P9230 should be selling for £99.90 (the rough equivalent of $120) and the 2 TB for 129.90 ($160), while the 500 GB P9220 is priced at £89.90 ($105).

Soon enough, a 1 TB version of the mobile model will be made available but, at the moment, no pricing information exists on it.

"For 20 years LaCie has introduced products that influence and fit right into our digital lives," says Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group.

"Since 1972 the Porsche Design luxury brand embodies that philosophy in everything that we have created, bringing a sense of quality and luxury to every single Porsche Design product. We are pleased to introduce a product that resembles superior form and functionality."

All newcomers feature support for the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface standard and their frames are 100% recyclable.
