LaCie has always been a company that gives a significant importance to the design of its products, which is why, over the years, it has rolled out several products that have been built in collaboration with a renowned designer. On that note, the company has just announced that it has been working with world-famous designer Philippe Starck to provide its customers with a unique style that will be available on its new LaCie Starck Desktop hard drive and the LaCie Starck Mobile hard drive. Designed for desktop and portable computer users, the new products combine the latest hard disk drives with a unique design that will set them apart from the majority of external storage solutions available on the market.

“Choosing to work with my good friend and exceptional designer Philippe Starck is always exciting. He brings a poetry to his work, and helps us deliver products that combine function and beauty.” said Philippe Spruch, chief executive officer, LaCie. “The new Starck products showcase this amalgamation perfectly with LaCie’s constant innovation and Starck, who is the ultimate designer.”

As far as technical specifications go, the new external desktop hard drive has been designed to provide users with as much as 2TB of storage space, inside a unique and stylish enclosure. The unit is featured with a traditional USB 2.0 interface and is compatible with both Windows XP and Mac OS X operating systems. Design-wise, the drive is featured with a 3mm resistant aluminum casing and a Starck signature LED. It also offers a customizable touch-sensitive surface and intuitive automatic backup software. The mobile version of the new Starck-designed LaCie external drive series doesn't fall too far from the tree, featuring similar specifications and being available in a maximum capacity of 500GB.

Price wise, the new LaCie Starck desktop and LaCie Starck mobile drives are available for US$129.99 for 1TB and US$99 for 320GB, respectively.
