LaCie, one of the world's leading vendors of storage devices, has just announced the introduction of its new high-definition LaCinema Rugged multimedia hard drive, the LaCinema Rugged HD. According to the company, its new product is the first multimedia player in its class that allows users to store and play high-definition content on any HDTV with support for full-HD 1080p resolutions. The new drive offers a decent storage capacity, enabling users to store their favorite music, TV shows, movies and other multimedia files on a portable storage solution.

“When it comes to viewing High Definition content, it is hard to find a mobile form factor that doesn’t compromise important features and functionality, like built-in storage, format versatility, and integrated HDMI connectivity,” said Christelle Dexet, LaCie multimedia product manager. “The LaCinema Rugged HD not only provides the ultimate mobile design, but it allows users to store large amounts of HD content and play it wherever they desire.”

Part of the company's growing line of LaCinema multimedia solutions, the new LaCinema Rugged HD will provide users with up to 500GB of storage space in an ultraportable and rugged drive that comes with its own remote control for fast access to the stored multimedia files. The solution offers support for a considerable number of video and audio formats, making it an ideal choice for enthusiasts worldwide.

Designed for users of PC and Mac systems, the LaCinema Rugged HD multimedia external drive comes with a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface for connecting to the PC, while an HDMI port brings the necessary support to view the stored files on a full-HD display.

As for pricing and availability, the company announced that the new LaCinema Rugged HD was already available through its online store, coming with an MSRP of US$349.99.
