One of the largest telecommunications companies from the Caribbean, LIME, has experienced difficulties in the past days due to a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack that targeted their systems.

The Hacker News reports that the company is already taking steps to implement security enhancements. They’re also working on identifying the IP addresses of the attackers.

“The attack, though confined to a small portion of LIME’s Internet customer base, inconvenienced the affected customers and gave the appearance of a widescale service-impacting problem on the company’s network,” reads a statement from the company.

The firm has informed the authorities on the incident and plans on taking legal action against the individuals that launched the attack, that is, if they are identified.

DDOS attacks against companies are not uncommon, recent studies revealing that many of the ones launched against these types of organizations are actually the work of competitors that want to disrupt businesses similar to their own.
