South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is reportedly getting ready for the release of a new Android-based handset, one that would sport both a touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard in a candybar form factor.

The new mobile phone, still unofficial for the time being, has just been spotted into the wild, and some even suggest that it was already released on the market, at least in some countries.

Dubbed LG Optimus Pro, the smartphone is said (via) to have been put for sale in Italy, where users can purchase it for only €179.

Although nothing was formally announced on the matter, rumor has it that it should not be too long before LG made the new handset available for purchase in other countries around the world as well.

The one thing that seems to be certain, however, is that LG's Optimus Pro should compete directly with Samsung's Galaxy Pro smartphone, as well as with Motorola's DROID Pro Android device, both of which sport similar form factors.

The list of known specifications of this device would include a 2.8-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a QVGA resolution, and which hides beneath a fast application processor, most probably clocked at over 800MHz.

The LG Optimus Pro is also said to come to the market with a 3-megapixel photo snapper, which should arrive with video recording capabilities too, though not in high-definition.

Unfortunately, the detailed list of specifications for LG Optimus Pro was not unveiled for the time being, but we can safely assume that it would pack 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, along with GOS receiver, and a microSD memory card slot.

The smartphone is powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, which means that it would also offer support for various services from Google, as well as for applications that can be downloaded from the Android Market.

Hopefully, it won't be too long before LG decides to announce more on the new Optimus Pro smartphone, so stay tuned to learn additional info on the matter.
