To be officially launched soon

Verizon Wireless comes in the new year with two new high-end mobile phones, LG VX9100 and Samsung U940. We already knew about Samsung U940 that it's headed for Verizon, as rumors spread this info since last year, but the LG VX9100 is really fresh news. Unfortunately, not much is known about this handset.

However, we do know a lot about Samsung U940, which is the US version of Samsung F700, already available in Europe. The handset, which apparently will be named Samsung U940 Q-Ball, for mysterious reasons, works in the CDMA network and brings 3G technology to Verizon's subscribers. In terms of design the phone looks similar to Apple's iPhone, but its main advantage is that it packs a full QWERTY sliding keyboard, making text input an easy thing to do. The phone has a touchscreen 2.8 inch display, a 2 Megapixel camera, HSPDA connectivity for download speeds of up to 7.6 Mbps, microSD card support, Stereo Bluetooth and other features that are unavailable at the moment.

While Samsung U940 was approved by FCC back in December 2007, the new LG VX9100 passed the FCC test just a few days ago and, as we already mentioned, there aren't many details about this device, not even an image with it. We know though that it's a high-end phone packed with Bluetooth and EV-DO. Other specs will come when both handsets will be official released, meaning at the end of this quarter the latest. By that time, the retail prices for Samsung U940 and LG VX9100 will also be known.

If I were in charge of how things are going at Verizon I'd launch the phones at the beginning of February, to catch the Valentine's Day craze. But, since I'm not in charge of anything, we must all wait and see what the US carrier decides.
