Today, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has announced that its 5.5-inch Quad HD (QHD) AH-PS LCD panel for smartphones has received the necessary certification, and that it will enter mass production shortly.

Moreover, the company has confirmed that the panel will be included in the next LG flagship smartphone, which is expected to become official as the LG G3, as soon as May 27.

The new screen has been certified as a QHD display after being tested by NEMKO, the Norway-based international testing and certification organization for electrical products.

Moreover, the handset vendor has unveiled that the new touchscreen will arrive on the market with 2560 x 1440 pixels, which is four times more than HD panels and 1.8 times more than full HD displays.

The new 5.5-inch QHD AH-IPS LCD also delivers a 538 pixels per inch density, which means that it meets the 100 percent RGB color reproduction standard.

Set to enter mass production soon, the panel will be capable of delivering great performance capabilities, superior to that of other existing smartphone panels.

LG also notes that the new product is an ultra-slim panel that is only 1.2mm thick and which features a 1.15mm bezel, making it the narrowest available. It is 0.05mm smaller than screens launched last year.

The new Quad HD display is also said to have achieved the same level of brightness as a Full HD panel, despite the fact that the increased number of pixels makes it difficult to raise penetration ratio.

“This product fulfills the core qualities of smartphone displays, which are high resolution and slim design, and I believe the consumers can enjoy vivid images that are close to real life with this display,” said Byung-koo Kim, vice president and head of LG Display’s IT/Mobile Development Group.

“LG Display will continue to maintain technology leadership in the super high-resolution smartphone display market above 500 ppi resolution, which will take off this year.”

The new Quad HD screen is expected to deliver sharper color and contrast for images when compared to regular displays, specifically courtesy of the higher amount of pixels.

According to LG, the panel will allow users to view high-resolution images and videos in the Blu-ray format, while enjoying a fully vivid and realistic experience.

At the same time, the display keeps the readability of letters and images without distorting them even when they are enlarged, both on web pages and in documents.

LG G3 will be the first smartphone to arrive on the market with the new 5.5-inch QHD AH-IPS LCD touchscreen from LG, but other devices are also expected to adopt it moving forth, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
