LG Electronics is set to push a large number of smartphones to the market in India this year, the latest reports on the matter point out.

The handset vendor has just announced the release of no less than 12 new smartphones running under Google’s Android operating system for the local market.

Sanjay Maheshwary, head of marketing, mobile communications, LG Mobile, confirmed these plans to TMI, and also unveiled details on some of the handsets that will be launched in India.

The company will launch the Optimus 4X HD in the country in May, and will continue the push with other smartphones that it announced earlier this year, such as LG Optimus Vu or the LG Optimus 3D Max.

"LG will launch 12 Android based handsets in the price bracket of Rs 7,000 to Rs 35,000 for Indian consumers this year," Sanjay Maheshwary stated.

"LG will begin the launch of Android handsets in India from May with Optimus 4X HD smartphone with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile operating system and quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 mobile processor."

LG Optimus 4X HD is the first quad-core device from the company, and promises increased performance capabilities to its users.

It will be accompanied by LG’s Optimus Vu, the largest smartphone from LG, featuring a touchscreen of 5-inch in size that boasts a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The smartphone also packs a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution and 650 nits of brightness. It features an 8MP camera on the back, along with a 1.3-megapixel front camera for video calling, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and the like.

LG will also launch the LG Optimus 3D Max in India, which packs a 1.2 GHz dual core application processor, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in memory.

Other devices that LG will bring to the market in India include the Optimus L3, Optimus L5 and Optimus L7 smartphones that debuted in February in its L series.

"LG expects smartphone sales to touch 18-20 million units in 2012 and 80 per cent of the demand is for devices in the category of Rs 10,000," Sanjay Maheshwary continued.
