It looks like 2014 will be, among other things, the year of the ultra-wide display form factor, as companies like LG prepare to show off such products in various sizes, like the UltraWide line.

It's a pretty simple name, but simple names often work better than any alternative when seeking to capture the attention of prospective buyers.

Besides, it's not like there are many ultra-wide panels out there. LG probably won't have competition from many, other than Samsung, Dell and maybe Panasonic.

Anyway, the company has prepared two of these displays with 21:9 aspect ratio for the 2014 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

They are both called UM95 and have diagonals of 34 and 29 inches, but the same resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels. They will be up for everyone to admire from January 7-10, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada (that's where CES always takes place).

The monitors are good for multitasking (side-by-side application running) and media playback of course, and even support the Thunderbolt 2 technology (20 Gbps transfer speed for video streams). Yes, you can daisy-chain them too.

"LG IPS 21:9 UltraWide series was originally developed as user-centric PC monitors toenhance the computing experience, for both work and play," said Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT Business Division at LG Electronics.

"Our 21:9 aspect ratio monitors has proven to be a critical and commercial success and we forecast this market will continue to grow."

In addition to the above, the LG UM95 monitors have 99 percent coverage of the sRGB color palette and the transparent Crystal Float stand (the screen seems to float in darkened rooms). 4-Screen Split and Dual Link-up are supported as well.

Needless to say, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors are available too. Sadly, prices are unknown. Anyway, stay tuned as we check out the other monitors set for CES unveiling.
