South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has just announced plans to make the LG Optimus Black smartphone available for purchase on the market in Europe before the end of May.

The mobile phone was unveiled during the Consumer Electronics Show in early 2011, and was already pre-ordered by 56 network carriers in 50 different countries, the company announced.

The handset is set to arrive on other continents around the world as well in the near future, with North America and Asia to receive it after Europe does.

One of the main features of the new mobile phone would be its unique NOVA display, which can deliver far more brightness than any other display available on mobile phones at the moment.

“For smartphone users who appreciate both style and substance, the LG Optimus Black offers beauty, performance and mobility in one smart package,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

“LG Optimus Black is a significant addition to our global Optimus portfolio and we think it'll prove to be one of our most popular phones.”

The LG Optimus Black was the first handset to arrive on shelves with the said NOVA display technology, which delivers higher levels of brightness and true blacks and whites, along with a 50 percent reduced power consumption during general indoor use.

The handset measures 122 x 64 x 9.2mm and weighs in at 109g (with a 1,500 mAh Battery included), while sporting the said 4-inch NOVA Display (700 nits brightness) with touchscreen capabilities.

“The sleek design of the phone is accentuated by the flush finish of the seamless 4-inch display to offer a smooth, undisrupted surface. This is complemented by the slim 9.2mm body and its unparalleled weight of only 109g,” LG notes.

The specs list of the new device would include a 1GHz processor (TIOMAP3), along with a 5MP camera on the back, 2MP front camera, 2GB of memory and microSD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage space, Wi-Fi Direct, or gesture UI powered by gyro-sensor.

The mobile phone arrives on shelves all dressed up in Black, but LG also plans the release of white and pink versions starting with the next month.
