Introduced at the 2011 Mobile World Congress back in February, both LG Optimus 2X and Optimus Black have since then been introduced on the Indian market.

Tagged as an emerging market, India has seen tremendous growth for handset manufacturers that mostly offer entry-level mobile phones.

However, it seems that the demand for high-end mobile phones has increased lately, as Google, Microsoft, Apple and Blackberry are competing for new markets in the smartphone category.

The latest high-tier smartphone launched in India, LG Optimus 2X, will soon be available at all retail stores for Rs. 30,000 (about $675). The Optimus Black will be sold for Rs. 27,000, (roughly $608).

Smart phones have marked the beginning of a new era and undoubtedly 2011 will be the year of smart phones in India. India market is already witnessing a huge demand for these futuristic devices and this demand will tremendously grow in coming years,” said Mr. Vishal Chopra, Business head, Mobile Communication, LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd.

Furthermore, India will be one of the few countries to get the Optimus 2X so early. This is LG's first phone with a 1 GHz dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and packs 512 MB RAM, 8GB internal storage, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Unfortunately, the device does not come with the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread; instead, it runs on Froyo platform. However, LG already announced that the Optimus 2X would receive a software upgrade soon after launch.

The Optimus Black is the manufacturer’s first handset to feature a NOVA display. Among the phone's highlights, one can notice the 5-megapixel rear camera, the 2-megapixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi connectivity and support for HSDPA (7.2 Mbps) and HSUPA (5.76 Mbps).

As a side note, both smartphones have been confirmed by LG Australia as well, which is expected to release the Optimus 2X and Optimus Black in Q2 or early Q3 2011.
