14 DAY TRIAL // Announced by LG India in early April, the Optimus 2X has finally made it on the Indian market. The smartphone is now available for purchase via online retailer Flipkart for Rs. 25,990 (about $577), which is almost $100 cheaper than the suggested retail price announced in the official statement.
However, there's a catch, as Flipkart is shipping the Optimus 2X within 6 to 8 business days, which is very weird taking into consideration that the retailer is known for shipping in 3 days usually.
It seems more likely that the online retailer is still expecting for the first LG Optimus 2X shipment to arrive, but preferred to list the phone as being available anyway.
Unveiled back in February, at the 2011 Mobile World Congress, the LG Optimus 2X has been recently awarded by Guinness Book of World Records as the first mobile phone to feature a dual-core processor.
“Smart phones have marked the beginning of a new era and undoubtedly 2011 will be the year of smart phones in India. India market is already witnessing a huge demand for these futuristic devices and this demand will tremendously grow in coming years,” said Mr. Vishal Chopra, business head, Mobile Communication, LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd.
LG decided to go with NVIDIA's Tegra 2 dual-core processor and Google's Android 2.2 Froyo platform, but we might soon see it upgraded to the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, as the manufacturer has already announced it.
LG's first dual-core phone packs 512 MB RAM, 8GB internal storage, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
Furthermore, the Optimus 2X sports a larger 4-inch touchscreen display with 16 million colors support and 800 x 480 pixels resolution.
The superior 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash is fully compatible with HD video recording, while the 1.3-megapixel front camera allows users to make video calls.
Among other highlights of the Optimus 2X, it is worth mentioning the HSDPA and HSUPA support, WiFi connectivity, built-in GPS receiver and the high capacity 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery.
