South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is the second worldwide leading handset vendor that will skip the Mobile World Congress 2010 show, which will take place in February in Barcelona, Spain, following Nokia, which announced a few weeks ago that it won't be present at the event. LG has been rumored for quite some time now to plan not making an appearance at the MWC 2010 exhibition, and now things are as official as they can be.

“For 2010, LG is redefining its presence at Mobile World Congress and will be taking a new event strategy. This strategy is not specific to Mobile World Congress, but represents a shift in their marketing initiatives overall. As part of this new approach, LG will not have a stand on the exhibition floor; however, they will have a presence at Mobile World Congress in terms of meetings, hospitality and speaking in conference sessions,” a post on GSM World notes.

It comes rather as a surprise that the world's leading mobile phone vendors chose to not be present at the most important event of the year in the mobile industry, yet no explanation for the move came for the time being from LG. However, Nokia announced recently that it planned on holding its own event in Barcelona during the MWC show, an event called Connecting People, at which it already invited other industry players and the media.

Since the GSM Association has already confirmed LG's move regarding the MWC 2010 event, things are already nailed down. Rumors suggested that the high costs of the booth might have influenced LG in taking the decision, yet it seems that the company will still have some products showcased in a separate pavilion at the event. However, we can only hope that other mobile phone makers won't take the same decision as LG and Nokia, since the show is one place where people were and will be able to get their hands on some of the most appealing new handsets of the year.
