South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics seems set to show to the world that it can keep its previously made promises, and is now reported to be gearing up for the launch of its first Windows Mobile 7-based device in September this year. The company already said that it would release a series of such phones in 2010, yet this is the first time when a smaller launch window emerges, that's for sure.

Back at the International 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG stated that it would launch handsets powered by Microsoft's upcoming Windows Mobile 7 mobile client this year, yet this affirmation was shadowed soon after by rumors on a possible 2011 delay of the OS. However, a French tech blogger Presse-Citron, who attended a design session at LG Design Labs, tweeted that Windows Mobile 7 will land on the first LG phones in September. The guys over at WMPoweruser have a few more details on the matter.

Mum's the word from Microsoft when it comes to Windows Mobile 7 or other versions of its mobile operating system; yet, it seems that its partners are not that keen on keeping the secrecy. The next-gen flavor of the platform was said a few times before to be on its way to make an official appearance at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, and, even if rumors say it might come only at MWC 2011, we still have high hopes for this year's event.

Along with the news on that Windows Mobile 7-based handset from LG, also come a few details on a device that will run under Google's Android 2.1 operating system. According to the same tweet from Presse-Citron, the South Korean maker is set to launch the phone in April, and US users will receive it first, followed by the European ones. LG already said officially that half of its smartphones would be powered by Android this year, so there is no surprise here in the end.
