LG Electronics is reportedly gearing up to join the trend of releasing mini flavors of flagship handsets with a new 4.7-inch flavor of the LG G2.

The smartphone is said to be already under development at the South Korean mobile phone maker, though there’s no telling on when it might land on shelves.

The LG G2 mini, provided that this will indeed be the name of this handset when it goes official, will feature specs similar to those of its larger counterpart, Techblog reports.

LG G2, however, sports a 5.2-inch full HD touchscreen display, though the mini flavor might be launched only with a 4.7-inch 720p screen.

The phone should be powered by the same quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor as the current LG flagship smartphone, while also featuring 2GB of RAM inside.

Should the rumor pan out, we might also see the new device featuring a 13-megapixel camera on the back, along with a front camera for making video calls.

However, we should note that the mini flavors of flagship devices that other vendors out there have launched until now came to the market with much lower specs compared to their bigger brothers.

As PhoneArena notes, we might see the LG G2 mini being officially introduced as soon as the next month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, though no confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

With a wide range of mobile phone makers already launching mini versions of their most popular smartphones, it would not come too much as a surprise if LG joined the party as well.

What remains to be seen, however, is how well the upcoming smaller smartphone will fare on the market. LG G2 is currently said to have underperformed, with only 2.3 million units sold to date, but G2 mini might prove more successful than that.
