Named KC910

It looks like LG, which has recently taken Sony Ericsson's place, becoming the world's fourth largest handset manufacturer, will come soon with a new 8 Megapixel camera phone, named LG KC910.

According to the Dutch website MobileCowboys, which got a tip from an anonymous source, the new LG should hit the market in October. Furthermore, besides having 8 Megapixels, the handset's camera also features image stabilizer, face detection, Xenon flash and video recording (30 fps at a maximum resolution of 720 x 480 pixels). Auto focus is not mentioned, but it would be weird if this capability were not present.

As for the phone itself, the KC910 is said to be about 14 millimeters thin (or even less), but its form factor is currently not known. Also, the handset apparently sports a WVGA touchscreen display, hence it probably has an 800 x 480 pixel resolution, as Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1.

Thin new LG handset seems really great, assuming it is what it's presented above to be. The South Korean manufacturer is no stranger to high-end camera phones (see the Viewty), hence building an 8 Megapixel one is not an impossible thing to do. The company has recently released a KC550 5 Megapixel handset, and the KC910 could very well be its more advanced successor.

If the KC910 is indeed a real device and its features are the rumored ones, then it's highly possible that, by the end of 2008, there will be at least three 8 Megapixel handsets on the market. Sony Ericsson C905 is already confirmed for a release in the fourth quarter of the year and there are also rumors saying Motorola is preparing an 8 Megapixel Alexander phone. Plus, we might also see Nokia getting on-board in the 8 Megapixel game - the Finnish company surely has what it takes to do so.

Anyway, until some official details about the LG KC910 and its 8 Megapixel camera emerge, we can only file its existence under the "rumor" category.
