The first Snapdragon-based handset in the country

South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has just launched a new device on the market in its home land, the LG Maxx LG9400, which is none other than the LG Arena Max LU9400 which was already unveiled to the world not to long ago. The handset is now available for purchase in the country via LG Telecom, the smallest carrier in the market, and comes as the first device in Korea to boast Qualcomm’s already popular Snapdragon processor.

The launch of LG Maxx LG9400 in Korea marks another first in the mobile phone industry, as this is the first non-smartphone handset that packs inside a 1 Ghz mobile processor, following a long list of smartphones that arrive with it inside, starting with Toshiba's TG01 last year. Moreover, it seems that the Snapdragon chip will soon be included in other devices too, including smartbooks like HP’s AirLife 100.

The LG Maxx LG9400 comes to the Korean market with Qualcomm’s QSD 8650 chipset inside, which is different from the QSD 8250 chipset available with the LG GW820 in the US, for example. The handset also sports a 3.5-inch touchscreen display with enhanced finger friendliness, which boasts a WVGA resolution, and there is also a 5-megapixel digital camera on the back.

The specifications list of the new handset shows that it comes with support for HD video, DivX, and mobile TV (T-DMB), as well as for Wi-Fi connectivity. A built-in GPS receiver is also present with the device, along with other specs and features, over which LG thrown in its S-Class 3D UI for an enhanced user experience when compared to the handset's predecessor, the LG Arena.

It seems that the newly launched LG Maxx LG9400 is the first mobile phone LG plans on delivering to the market in Korea with a Snapdragon processor inside, and that it will be followed by handsets expected to land at SK Telecom and KT. Unlike this device, the upcoming ones are said to be smartphones, but no details on the operating system they will sport have emerged so far.
