If there are still LG fans in Australia, they may wish to know that two new mid-range smartphones will be launched in the country in the coming months.

The folks over at AusDroid report that LG has confirmed that its L40 and L70 budget-friendly smartphones will go on sale in Australia in June and May, respectively.

As the name suggests, the LG L70 is the better featured of the two and comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. LG L40 is powered by a similar 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, but packs only 512MB of RAM and the same 4GB of storage.

It is also worth mentioning that the LG L70 sports a large 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display, while the L40 has a much smaller 3.5-inch display.

Another difference between the two smartphones is the camera. The L70 comes with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a secondary VGA camera in the front, by the L40 only packs a sub-par 3-megapixel photo snapper and a similar VGA front-facing camera.

Although there are no details on the phones’ pricing options, we can safely assume that both will be available for free on select plans at all major carriers in Australia. The value of these plans remains to be determined closer to launch.

Anyway, the main selling point of these affordable smartphones should be the fact that both are powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

They also feature some of LG’s innovative functions, such as KnockCode, which allows users to set an unlock pattern using taps on the phones’ displays.

The camera app comes with features such as Multipoint Autofocus and Fast Snapshot, which offers 3 x 3 9 point autofocus option. Both LG L40 and L70 allow users to quickly launch the camera holding the “Down” volume key.

These are just some of the interesting features and functionalities offered by these L Series III devices, but more will be available to users. Stay tuned for more details on the exact release of these budget-friendly smartphones.

“Consumers needs and desires have been at the core of the design process for the L SeriesIII, LG’s latest offering. From the inclusion of the Android 4.4 KitKat to the standout design and the suite of LG software features, we are confident we have created great products that our consumers will love,” said Lambro Skropidis, general manager marketing at LG Electronics Australia.
