LG is the perfect runner up on the Android smartphone market. It never gets tired, but it doesn’t manage to outsmart its competitor either.

The South Korean company has made an important technological leap with the LG G Flex, which is the first curved smartphone available worldwide. You may want to check out our LG G Flex full review for more details.

The innovative features that LG introduced with the G2’s launch were a turning point for the handset maker and to prove that the new features are very useful to the end users and not just some gimmicks, some of them have been cloned by other brands in the market.

However, it appears that LG is now running out of ideas and while it is planning to further improve its Optimus UI, it looks like the new design heavily resembles the “flat” UI that’s been recently introduced into the Galaxy S5 and has been part of Apple’s iOS 7 for even longer than that.

So, who’s copying who? History says that Samsung is heavily inspired by Apple’s products, while Samsung’s products are copied by other Android manufacturers with few exceptions, like HTC for example, which is one of the companies that seem to do their own thing for now.

LG is now looking to bring its fans a completely reworked UI along with its flagship smartphone, the G3. The first screenshot taken from the alleged device claims that the handset could be packed with a QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display, which would be a first for the South Korean company.

Today, Dutch blog site lgg3kopen has published the first screenshot of what they claim to be the new LG Optimus UI. While the new UI looks really good in comparison with the current version, the idea doesn’t come from LG.

It looks like the South Korean company copied the “flat” design that now seems to be the trend for most major handset makers. Hopefully, LG’s Optimus UI will be different from other similar UIs.

While we can’t accuse LG of not being able to bring an innovative UI because of just one leaked screenshot, it’s clear that fans should prepare for an entirely new UI experience.

We expect more details on the LG G3 and the new Optimus UI to emerge in the coming weeks, especially given the fact that the flagship smartphone is rumored for reveal in May. What do you think about the new “flat” design of the alleged LG Optimus UI?
