LG is prepping two new flagship devices for 2015

2015 is the year of grace when a major smartphone manufacturer, Samsung, has taken a very important step forward. A few weeks ago at MWC 2015, the Korean tech giant finally lifted the veil off a metal-clad flagship the company’s fans have been dreaming of since forever.

Now it appears that other device makers are also taking note of Samsung’s strategy of offering consumers top-tier products that feel more premium.

Rumors about LG working on two different flagship products have already made their way online a while ago, so we should expect to see the company unveil the G4 in the upcoming months, plus another product from a novel line, which will supposedly be placed above the G family.

This mysterious new handset has been dubbed the LG G4 Note by the rumor mill and it is believed that it will arrive with a smart pen technology akin to what Samsung is offering on the Galaxy Note 4.

LG is looking to up things a notch

Today, more details about the upcoming flagships arrive to us via a report from ZDNet Korea. It appears that LG is following the footsteps of Samsung with its upcoming premium devices and will heavily employ the use of metal.

Insider sources tend to believe this is a strategic move to help the Korean tech giant remain a palpable presence in the face of avid competition from companies like Apple, Samsung or Xiaomi.

But there’s a caveat to all of this. LG won’t use metal for its “mainstream” flagship, the LG G4, and only the G4 Note will receive this treatment.

The problem is that producing metal cases in large quantities requires the company to have access to new equipment. Even if the Korean tech giant is considering taking up the use of CNCs (computer precision controls) in order to manufacture its own metal cases, this is a time-consuming affair which would simply take too long.

So in order to be able to launch the LG G4 around April or May, the company will have to sacrifice hopes of making the phone metal-clad.

On the bright side of things, LG might have enough time to set up a decent metal frame production by the end of the year. So that’s probably when we’re going to see the LG G4 Note make its debut on the market.
