LG G2 owners who purchased their smartphones via AT&T's official retail channels will be pleased to know the carrier is now rolling out the long-awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat update.

The handset maker kicked off the rollout of the update in South Korea several weeks ago, but it only arrived in the United States this week.

The update is likely to be rolled out in other countries in the following months, though LG has yet to confirmed when and which regions will get the KitKat upgrade.

On a side note, LG G2 owners in the UK are expected to receive Android 4.4.2 KitKat sometime in March, but an exact release date has yet to be confirmed.

Aside from bringing the G2's software to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the update adds the following new features and improvements:

- Improved user interface with Android 4.4 KitKat: The latest version of Android includes enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, improved closed captioning support, and stronger security.

- Improved battery efficiency: the phone plays music more efficiently and supports the battery-saving location mode, extending battery life.

- Faster processing speed: The latest version of Android provides a noticeable speed boost that runs applications 17 percent faster than before and web-browsing speed is mproved with the Chromium engine.

- Printing in the Cloud: Google Cloud Printer makes it simple to print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection.

- Enhanced “Knock On” feature: The responsiveness of LG’s Knock On feature has been improved.

According to AT&T, the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in waves, so it might not arrive on all LG G2 devices at the same time.

Those who have yet to be notified on the update can manually check for it by going to Settings / General / About phone / Software Update / Update Now.
