I don't know about you, but I, for one, really love to witness the ongoing battle between the Korean tech giants LG and Samsung, who're pretty much constantly struggling to get ahead of each other in pretty much every single industry segment they're both actively involved in, the LCD displays' field being, quite obviously, one of the most important.

And now, it would seem that LG Display has yet again managed to take the lead, since, according to OLED-Display, the Korean company has managed to develop a 37-inch LCD Panel that has a gap between the panels from just 4 mm left/right 1.5 mm, top/bottom 2.5 mm.

Despite being super-thin and thus, a perfect match for those HDTV fans who love to get themselves the slimmest and most elegant products to date, the new display solution from LG targets a completely different segment, namely that of digital signage.

The new panel will be showcased in a 3 x 3, 111-inch arrangement at the FPD International Japan 2010 expo, that will take place between November 10 – 12, 2010, but for the time being, there's no info on whether the company plans to expand this technology to some of their consumer-oriented products.

Nevertheless, that's not a possibility we should rule out completely.

What's really interesting to note here is that this is not the first time LG Display snatches a “world's something” title from Samsung in the past few weeks, the company also managing to develop the world's largest 3D HDTV, the LG 72LEX9, that we've talked about a while ago.

Of course, knowing Samsung, it won't be long before the company hits back at LG Display with an even slimmer, more slender display solution (if that's even possible), so we're quite anxiously waiting to see just when that will happen.
