South Korean handset maker LG has just announced it will provide all L series II smartphones with the premium “Knock” feature beginning January 2014.

Previously known as “KnockON,” this feature was integrated for the first time within the LG G2 software as a convenient way to the turn the smartphone on and off by tapping twice on the touchscreen display.

The “Knock” feature is extremely useful for LG G2 owners given the fact the power button is placed on the back of the device.

However, the G2 was not the first devices launched by South Korean company to feature “Knock,” as LG also added the useful functionality to the G Pad 8.3 tablet.

The third device to receive the feature, LG G Flex is currently available for purchase in South Korea, but the curved smartphone will be launched in other countries beginning next year.

According to LG, the feedback received from owners of these LG devices integrated with “Knock” feature was so positive that the company decided to bring it to a larger audience.

All owners of L Series II smartphones will be receiving the “Knock” feature starting January via a maintenance update. Availability of update may vary by region and carrier so stay tuned for more info on the matter.

It is also worth mentioning “Knock” (formerly known as KnockON) will be included as a standard feature in the company’s future L Series II smartphones.

“Knock is distinctively an LG UX and a great example of what happens when you marry the latest in mobile technology with consumer-centric insights. No one ever thought that a power button needed to be improved until our engineers wondered why they couldn’t turn the entire screen into a power button,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics’ Mobile Communications Company.
