Google is reportedly taking over our TV sets with its Android operating system. LG will start shipping these Google TVs beginning with 17th of May this year.

The TV sets are powered by a custom quad core ARM processor most likely based on the Cortex A9 design. The operating system is not exactly Google’s well-known Android.

In fact, it’s a customized version of Android that the search giant likes to call Google TV.

Lg’s new TV sets will be carrying the second installment of Google’s TV operating system. All in all, we believe we’re getting too close to the day when a virus will take over our TV and our kids will be watching adult content all day until we get home.

We’re sure Skype will soon follow on their TV sets or the next versions and who knows, those could be hacked and the TV will watch us watching it.

More conservative IT enthusiasts like us believe that there should be a limit on what an electronic appliance should do. Remember those “smart” fridges that were able to tell you if you needed to buy milk and if the eggs inside the fridge are rotten?

Those ideas do not apply in today’s world.  You must actually know you DO have eggs in your fridge and you’d better eat them before they rot considering how expensive food is today and how much of it goes to waste.

Of course, the fridge might be able to remind you that the expiration date is getting closer, but who want a nagging fridge anyway?

We still like LG’s new TV and we eagerly await them for reviewing them here. One of the most important aspects we would like to emphasize is the readability of the text. We’d really enjoy reading the IT news or a review on the living room couch, without getting a headache.
