The LEGO Group has announced that it plans to introduce a free to play option to the LEGO Universe MMO, designed to make the game more accessible to those who love to create complex stuff out of virtual bricks.

The free to play options will allow gamers to try out the experience before they commit to a paid membership for as long as they like and the LEGO Group says that there are no plans to introduce any micro transactions to the game.

The normal subscription rate will be set at 10 dollars per month and will allow gamers to get access to the full LEGO Universe video game.

The free content will include two adventure zones and one player space where gamers can create their own virtual LEGO content.

It also seems that those who will opt for the free to play try out will not be getting access to new game content, like the Ninjago content that is currently being rolled out.

The game includes more than 15 adventure zones at the moment and limiting access for free to play gamers to just 2 is a limitation that should encourage a lot of players to move to a paid subscription.

From August LEGO Universe is also set to become a digitally distributed only product, allowing players to download all of the game and eliminating the need to pick up a DVD.

Jesper Vilstrup, who is the vice president at the LEGO Group, stated, “The LEGO Group remains committed to success in the digital space and to LEGO Universe. We see LEGO Universe as a key element for our digital play division, and are adjusting the business model to make the game more accessible to players, without the immediate obligation to purchase or subscribe.”

The developers have also announced that they are planning more content updates for the MMO, set to arrive later in the year.
