Mojang, the company behind the very successful indie hit Minecraft, has announced that it is officially working with the LEGO Group in order to create a LEGO brick set that is based around the game and allows fans to create real world creations that mimic those made in the video game.

The company posted a statement saying that, “Minecraft is about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine in the virtual world. You can build anything you imagine with LEGO bricks in the physical world. Minecraft and LEGO were meant to be together.”

Daniel Kaplan, who is the business developer at Mojang, added via a Twitter message that, “We are working directly with Lego to make this happen.”

The company also said that all the royalties that it will get from the LEGO Minecraft collaboration will then be donated to charity.

At the moment the developers at Mojang are working with a number of fans of the LEGO concept to determine how the Minecraft set will work and no date for its official launch has yet been announced.

Markus Persson, the main developer at Mojang, has announced that he was stepping down from the lead when it comes to Minecraft because he wanted time to work on other ideas and prototypes.

Recently MInecraft got the official launch, meaning that it reached version 1.0, but the developers are saying that they will continue to work to update the game and improve its mechanics.

The main priority at the moment is the creation of a mod API that would allow all those who play the game to also deliver content on their own.

Mojang is also working on another announced project, called Scrolls, which uses a number of card based mechanics and will use a business model that involves an initial purchase and free subsequent updates.
