It seems that the new video game LEGO is at the moment working on with developer TT Games and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive in order to conquer the market dominated by the Skylanders series and the more recent Disney Infinity will be called LEGO Dimensions.

The information was obtained by VideoGamer and probably comes from the same source that has revealed that the project is in development and might soon get an official announcement, when the involved companies have a clear set of ideas to show to the public.

LEGO Dimensions will allow gamers to pick up special figurines based on bricks which can then be used to connect to a dedicated piece of hardware and translate their capabilities into a series of video game activities.

Warner Bros. has not commented on the rumor, but TT Games has previously said that it was exploring new ideas and that it might make an official announcement about a new game relatively soon.

LEGO Dimensions will need to have solid enough mechanics in order to compete with Skylanders, which first explored this genre and is owned by Activision, the Infinity series created by Disney, and even the Amiibo figurines that Nintendo is selling for the Wii U and the 3DS.

Launch is set to take place later in the year and so far no details have been leaked about pricing or supported platforms.

LEGO Dimensions will offer a wide variety of experiences

The big advantage that LEGO has over its competitors is linked to the amount of universes that it can access for its figurines and the adventures that they can be connected to.

The construction sets created by the company will be just the beginning, as Warner Bros. can also offer rights based on the television series and the movies that it is working on.

LEGO Dimensions might also be offered under a new business model in order to try and capture as much of the market as possible in a short period of time.

Given the fact that the title is expected to be introduced in 2015, Warner Bros. and TT Games will probably make an official announcement in a few weeks and will then offer a closer look at the LEGO figurines and the gameplay mechanics during the E3 2015 event in June.
