The CCFL-backlit models no longer even stand a chance

During the last three years, LED-backlit television sets dropped in price by a cumulative 40%. That brought them to the overall same level as CCFL-lit screens, which waste more energy.

That is why certain parties expect a significant jump in low-cost, direct-type LED-backlit LCD TV sales in 2013.

Compared to previous years, when people might have been satisfied with their existing television sets, this year will have more of them seeking to replace their CCFL panels. There isn't much of a point to hang onto them when LED is so much less energy demanding and better at producing high-quality, clear and bright images.

Even viewing angles are no longer a problem.

It isn't clear by how much shipments are expected to climb, but the report did say the proportion of LED versus all others would be of 90%.
