An employee arrested for placing four dry ice bombs at LAX airport explains that they have been meant as a prank.

However, the LAPD counter-terrorism bureau got involved and detained the man. Its head, Deputy Chief Michael Downing, explains that it has all been a joke.

“Prank. Curiousity. A person familiar with the device wanted to experience constructing it and detonating it,” LAPD Lt. John Karle adds for CBS Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old suspect in the dry ice bomb LAX scare is employed by contractor Servisair. He works as a ground baggage handler.

Only two of the devices he placed on terminals, have actually gone off. One blew up in a personnel-only area on the Tom Bradley International Terminal. A second one exploded in a Terminal 2 employee bathroom.
