L.A. Noire will take a considerable amount of time to complete, at least according to its publisher, Rockstar, who detailed new things about the game at last weekend's PAX East expo.

L.A. Noire is getting ready to be released in May, so Team Bondi, its developer, and Rockstar, the publisher, have begun releasing more details about the detective game.

The latest tidbit of information concerns the main story of the game, comprised of 23 "assigned cases," which will take from 25 to 30 hours to complete.

Players will need to guide LAPD detective Cole Phelps around all of these cases, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, interrogating suspects and figuring out who is responsible for all those crimes.

Besides these 23 cases, Rockstar says that there will be more missions to complete in the form of "unassigned cases," which help build the backstory of certain secondary characters.

When started, these side cases will effectively freeze the main story of the game until they are solved by Cole Phelps, with the help of the player.

Rockstar also confirmed that more cases will be released after the launch of the game, including the special ones confirmed as pre-order bonuses.

In case you missed the original announcement, Rockstar partnered up with retailers from all around the world to offer special bonus cases, equipment or items to those who pre-order L.A. Noire.

These include cases like the Naked City, which tasks detective Cole Phelps with solving the presumed suicide of a fashion model, and A Slip of the Tongue, which sees him follow a car theft case with surprising connections.

There are also two special suits that offer enhanced abilities for Phelps, the Broderick and the Sharpshooter ones, which give bonuses to hand-to-hand fighting and shooting, respectively.

L.A. Noire is set to appear for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 17, in North America, and May 20, in Europe and the rest of the world.
