During CTIA 2007

Most of today's mobile users must definitely send a lot of text messages, judging by the devices manufacturers are coming up with. As each day passes by, there are considerably less devices that don't pack a QWERTY keyboard.

During CTIA 2007, mobile manufacturer Kyocera unveiled five new handsets, offering sophisticated looks and some pretty nice features. Among them was the M1000, a handset packing a full QWERTY keyboard as well as EV-DO capabilities.

Apparently, like so many devices of this type before it, the M1000 also targets that specific type of user mentioned before that needs all of those communication options such as email, text messaging and IM as well as the keyboard that makes composing all those messages so much easier and faster.

The M1000 sports a fold open layout and while closed, it looks just like your regular candybar phone. When opened on the other hand, the user will discover a rather small 1.8 inch screen with a 160 x 120 pixel resolution (especially comparing to how big the phone is) that can be somewhat disappointing. And it's hardly understandable how Kyocera managed to include a comfortable and spacious keyboard, but a display so small.

Other features include a 1.3 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities. The mobile phone measures 100mm x 50mm x 20mm, weighs 100 grams and will last for around 150 hours on standby and 3.25 hours of talk time, although it's very likely that the M1000 will mostly be used for messaging and not voice calling. Kyocera hasn't yet announced what wireless carrier will be getting the phone or what price tag it will come out with, but these details will probably be made available soon.
