Kylie Minogue was the guest of honor at the Aussie awards the Logies 2014 over the weekend, with her performance of one of her latest singles, “I Was Gonna Cancel,” advertised as the highlight of the night. You can see the performance in the video below: to put it in as few words as possible, it wasn’t what fans expected.

While Kylie was still performing, angry fans took to Twitter to accuse her of lip-synching and to tell her that they had expected more of her, seeing how she’s been in the industry for decades and has the skills to pull off any live performance.

As the Daily Mail puts it, most of them thought Kylie mimed her way through a very lackluster number, one that did her no favors. In response, Kylie writes on Twitter that they “did something different” but, even so, she did sing live.

Her team backs her up in a statement to NineMSN, which also includes a possible explanation for why people at home thought she was lip-synching.

“The performance was live. Kylie has backing vocal fillers during chorus and the two backing vocalists to the side of stage,” her management says. So, when Kylie is dancing with both hands above her head and her voice is still heard on the chorus, that’s because she had a backing track and backing live vocals on this portion of the song.
