A small notebook designed by Daewoo Lucoms

Most of you might not be aware of the Daewoo brand, but at some point this company was the second largest conglomerate in Korea after Hyundai and followed by LG and Samsung. Although the company has lost its glory days, it's still far from becoming a small corporation, which is why their latest release comes as no surprise.

Dubbed LUKID, this product has been designed to offer small children a means to interact with the world by using a computer device. The small computer has been built by the Korean PC manufacturer Daewoo Lucoms and looks rather similar to Intel's Classmate PC. Both of these small notebooks have one thing in common and that is to offer children a way to learn by using a computer system. Unfortunately the LUKID is only available on the Korean market, but considering it's priced around $547, the device appears to be a rather expensive investment.

Taking a close look at the specification list, the LUKID seems to be more and more like Intel's sub-notebook. It sports a 900MHz Intel Celeron processor, 512 MB of DRAM, 30GB of storage space and a 6-cell Li-Ion battery. The device comes with a 9-inch LCD display that has a built-in web camera. It will offer its users Wi-Fi support and equips a Windows XP operating system. There is obviously no optical drive, but the built-in SD card slot is a nice alternative.

Overall, this sub-notebook looks rather nice, considering it's meant for children. Its built-in handle allows its users to easily carry it around, although there are no details concerning the notebook's total weight.

The Lukid might be a good product that children can play with, but its rather high price tag will make it affordable to a small number of users.
