Kingston may usually be no more than a memory and NAND Flash storage product maker, but today, or rather this month, it is branching out into gaming and overclocking.

The company is opening the HyperX DotA 2 League and an overclocking world championship.

The HyperX DotA 2 League will involve sixteen of the world's best professional DotA 2 gaming teams and will conclude in a final scheduled for January 2014, at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The prize money on the line is $50,000 / €36,800 (to be split between all ranks).

For those confused, Dota is short for Defense of the Ancients and is a Warcraft 3-based map where each player controls a hero that leads armies of treants or undead against the enemy.

The overclocking competition doesn't really need an explanation. We'll still mention, however, that Kingston is collaborating with HWBOT, the major informational website for overclockers and performance enthusiasts.

Beginning October 7, an open online qualifying competition in benchmarks for Maximum Memory Frequency, Super PI and Intel XTU will be available. It will last for four weeks.
