Video games have been around for quite some time, and it hasn't been long since zombies joined in on the fun, as they have been featured in a wide variety of titles over the years. But recently, largely due to Valve's extremely solid and successful Left 4 Dead, the undead have gained a new amount of popularity with video game developers.

As such, we've seen a flurry of both high-quality, triple A titles, like Resident Evil 5, but also independent arcade games, like Burn Zombie Burn!, which was released on the PlayStation Store recently. Seeing this increase in popularity, Konami has decided to take advantage of the aforementioned creatures and will release a dual thumbstick arcade title dubbed Zombie Apocalypse.

The game, which will arrive on both the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, promises to deliver a unique experience that can be shared with friends by means of the offline and online co-op mode that supports up to four players. The game plays out through seven environments that will see the battles take place during “days,” each day becoming harder and harder. Here is the complete fact sheet released by Konami.

Killer Environments – Use the environmental hazards to crush, burn, slice, or cause many other types of destruction on the zombie masses Trigger-mortis - 11 devastating weapons are at your disposal to blow the heads of the living dead or when your trigger finger is tired use the chainsaw to eviscerate them in a more up close and personal manner 55 Days Later – Survive 55 days of battles across 7 environments and you will be rewarded with not becoming a brainless zombie Slaughter Zombies as a Team – Play with 4 players locally or via the internet and work as a team to rescue survivors and put down as many brain eaters as you can while competing for high scores More Zombie Modes – Re-live the apocalypse with 7 challenging unlockable game modes

In conclusion, Zombie Apocalypse is definitely looking very attractive to arcade fans, who have already grown tired of Burn Zombie Burn! and want something different to satisfy their zombie killing urges. Look forward to the game this quarter, although no pricing or release details have been revealed yet.
