The team behind Microsoft’s visual game development platform might have been quiet over the past few months, but they weren’t inactive. Kodu Build 1.0.92.0 is now available for download, with the new release featuring a number of improvements which are bound to please existing and new users. At this point in time Kodu Build 1.0.92.0 is available only for Windows PCs, but the promise from the software giant is that a new Build of the software is also headed to the Xbox console, although a specific availability deadline wasn’t provided.

Build 1.0.92.0 makes it easier for new users to start playing around with the visual game dev environment.

This is possible through the new tutorial system which has been designed to make it as simple as possible for people to get started building their games with Kodu.

“The new tutorial system is designed to hand-hold new users through their first experience with Kodu. We’ve added 6 new tutorials that work with the new tutorial system,” a member of the Kodu team revealed.

“These will guide you through creating your first world in Kodu, adding and programming characters. The tutorials are designed to be short and sweet. Each can be completed in just a few minutes.”

Kodu Build 1.0.92.0 also introduces a new "fabric" terrain, but at the same time, Microsoft has done a lot of work focused on boosting the performance of existing terrain.

The new “fabric” look for the terrain “you to toggle between the blocking “cubic” look and a smooth “fabric” look. In the material picker, use the up/down DPad or the up/down arrow keys to toggle between the two,” Microsoft stated.

Users already familiar with Kodu will notice that the latest version offers better speed in terms of terrain rendering.

But this is not valid only for new levels built with the environment. Devs will get to also enjoy the performance improvements for the content they’ve already created in the game.

“Kodu now has localizations for Polish, German and French. Thanks to the community members who did the translations for us. Without them this wouldn’t be possible.

“If you’d like to help out translating Kodu into your language please contact us. By default Kodu will use your system display settings to figure out which language to use,” Microsoft noted.

“If you want to override this you can edit BokuSettings.Xml and change the Language option.”
