A great Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet alternative for those of you in the UK

Kobo’s e-Reader/tablet hybrid, the Kobo Vox, has now just reached the UK where WHSmith has started selling it for £169 (roughly 196 EUR).

As I am sure that most of you know, Kobo’s latest color e-reader creation is running a custom port of Goolge’s Android 2.3 operating system, aka Gingerbread, and packs a 7-inch 1024×600 capacitive screen with multitouch support.

All these are powered by an 800MHz ARM processor paired with 512MB of RAM and users also get 8GB of media storage space.

Other more advanced features such as 3G connectivity and a camera are sadly missing, but since Kobo markets the Vox as a color e-Reader it makes sense for such options to be left out of the equation.

Sadly, access to the Android Marketplace isn’t provided, so instead users will have to rely on GetJar for their app needs.
