14 DAY TRIAL // Knoppix 7.4.1, a bootable Live CD/DVD made up from the most popular and useful free and open source applications, backed up by automatic hardware detection and support for a large number of hardware devices, has been released and is now available for download.
It looks like the Knoppix developers are back on track and they have released a new version for their operating system just a couple of months after the previous one, which was 7.4.0. Before that, we had to wait another year for a major release.
Knoppix has been around for more than 13 years, and most of Linux users have heard about or installed it at one point or another. It's no longer in the prime time news, but maybe with a little work they'll be able to make it better again.

"Version 7.4.1 of KNOPPIX is based on the usual picks from Debian stable (wheezy) and newer Desktop packages from Debian/testing and Debian/unstable (jessie). It uses kernel 3.16.2 and xorg 7.7 (core 1.16.0) for supporting current computer hardware."
"In addition to the 32bit standard kernel, the 64bit version of the same kernel is installed on the DVD edition, supporting systems with more than 4GB of RAM and chroot to 64-bit installations for system rescue tasks. According to the changelog, a transparency problem (invisible mouse pointer) that occurred when using the "write on screen" or "fullscreen zoom" plugin has been fixed, the speech-dispatcher 0.8 for ADRIANE has been stabilized, the boot option "knoppix mkimage" has been added for auto-creating writable overlay on flash-knoppix-installed USB, dia and wxmaxima are now startable again, Linux Kernel 3.16.2 with cloop and aufs has been implemented by default, and a patch against the reiserfs file corruption bug in the kernel 3.16 series has been implemented.
Also, a new and experimental version of the 3D window manager compiz has been added, LibreOffice 4.3.1 has been added by default, GIMP has been updated to version 2.8.10, Wine version 1.7 (git) has been implemented, and numerous other changes and improvements have been made.
