The feline worked its way into the parrots' enclosure through a small hole

A couple of days ago, news broke that one really bad kitten had sneaked into an animal sanctuary in Tasmania and had killed 2 critically endangered orange-bellied parrots.

Conservationists explain that, presently, just 50 such birds are left to inhabit the species' natural habitat in Australia.

Hence the fact that the killing of these two parrots is undeniably a major setback as far as efforts to save the species from extinction go.

The cat reportedly made its way into the birds' enclosure through a small hole. Once there, it mauled two of the parrots to death.

Unfortunately for the kitten, it didn't manage to get out of the enclosure the same way it had gotten in. The result was that the staff at the breeding center eventually found it.

Conservationists decided not to file any charges against the kitten, but they did say that they would do their best to better secure the birds' housing and make sure that such incidents didn't happen again.
