Nintendo, the video game developer with probably the deepest catalog of impressive characters, has detailed some of the new mechanics that players will be able to play around with in the newly launched Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

The Nintendo Wii game allows players to direct Kirby, who is trying to get pieces of a strange spaceship that has crash landed on his home planet of Popstar, to inhale the enemies that he meets in order to get their abilities, from swinging a sword to defeat other enemies to using a lasso to move around the levels.

Things get even more interesting when Kirby meets more powerful enemies, allowing him to inhale them so that he can use Super Abilities, which can lead to the death of all the enemies on the map and can eve change the landscape.

Kirby is also able to Super Inhale and then spit out everything as a set of giant projectiles.

Scott Moffitt, who is executive vice president of Sales & Marketing at Nintendo of America, has stated, “Kirby's Return to Dream Land is a must-play for new and experienced fans, and it's only available on the Wii console.”

He added, “As friends and family gather together this holiday season, they'll have a blast discovering Kirby's new Super Abilities and teaming up to defeat enemies.”

Kirby's Return to Dream Land also includes cooperative play for up to four players, allowing additional players to inhabit the bodies of Meta Knight, King Dedede or Waddle Dee, who can combine their abilities to unleash even more powerful attacks.

It's interesting to see Nintendo putting effort into Kirby's Return to Dream Land considering that the Wii home console is living its last few months on the market as the main home console for the developer.

The Wii U is set to be launched at some point during 2012 for an yet undisclosed price.
