The same storage capacity as Toshiba's products

Kingston Technology Company Inc. announced yesterday that it has already produced memory cards with a larger storage capacity - miniSD and MMCmobile - which are now available on the retail market in 2 GB capacities.

"As consumers become more knowledgeable on the variety of features and functions offered by new multifunction mobile handsets, the need for larger capacity Flash memory continues to increase to optimize the devices' storage capabilities," said Keyla Velazquez, mobile media product manager, Kingston.

Because the deployment of several business applications such as order tracking and inventory management need a greater storage capacity, and because mobile manufacturers tend to decrease the products' sizes and increase their features, the memory cards become the most practical storage solution. Moreover, memory cards are said to improve both functionality and efficiency in these specialized business environments.

"Our research of the emerging global mobile market indicates a growing demand for higher capacities to allow users to store even more data, music, photos and video. For example, a 2-GB memory card can hold up to 1,100 photos, depending on a device's mega pixel, resolution and compression," Velazquez added.

Kingston is offering 2 GB versions of both its MMCmobile and miniSD cards, with each carrying a suggested retail price of $80. The new miniSD and MMCmobile 2 GB cards have a lifetime warranty, 24/7 tech support and comply with the SDA and MMCA specification standards, respectively.

But Kingston is not the sole manufacturer to launch memory cards, as Toshiba Corporation released just last month the company's latest miniSD memory card with a storage capacity of 2 GB, part of the extensive range of large capacity miniSD memory cards.

Consequently, Toshiba's miniSD card, which measures only 20.0mm (W)?21.5mm(L)?1.4mm(T), and weighs 1gr, adds 1GB of storage capacity to Toshiba's dedicated series.
