It seems that 8 GB flash drives are becoming increasingly popular nowadays, as more and more manufacturers roll out new versions of their previous offerings that provide exactly this storage capacity. And one of the latest additions to the market comes from Kingston, which has just started shipping the 8 GB versions of their DataTraveler 100 and DataTraveler II Plus Migo Edition flash drives.

The DataTraveler II Plus Migo Edition allows users to access just about anywhere a variety of software applications, as for example Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox with all the settings, favorites, cookies and history specific to their home computer. The device also allows the users to create and maintain different workspace profiles and password to protect them with the SecureTraveler2 privacy feature.

The device can attain some very serious data transfer rates, up to 19 MB/sec. (read) and up to 13MB/sec (write). The DataTraveler II Plus - Migo Edition is compatible with the hi-speed USB 2.0 specification, thus permitting data transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps. However, the Migo software suite works only on Windows XP (SP1 and above) or Windows 2000 (SP3 and above), which greatly reduces its level of versatility.

The main selling point of the DataTraveler 100 is its USB connector, safely housed inside a sleek case, so that the users won't have to worry anymore about losing the cap or damaging the respective connector. The device is quite portable, as it measures just around 59.7mm x 22.3mm x 9.5mm and it is also compatible with only the most recent operating systems, namely Windows Vista, 2000, XP (SP1 and above), as well as Mac OS10.x and above and even more surprisingly, it's also compatible with Linux Kernel 2.4 and above.

Quite surprisingly, the two drives are not that expensive, considering their degree of novelty. Thus, the DataTraveler II Plus Migo Edition retails for around $154, while the DataTraveler 100 is available for just around $116 and it's very likely that these relatively affordable price tags will have a very serious contribution to the devices' success.
