Late last year, we were presented with the opportunity to review one of Kingston’s latest initiatives in the Solid State Drive market, a 40GB SSD designed to become an upgrade choice for desktop PC users. The drive featured high read speeds, combined with a low capacity and low read performance, which consequently enabled Kingston to reduce the price tag of the drive, down to US$130. On that note, Kingston recently announced the expansion of its line of SSDNow V series with the introduction of a new 30GB SSD, featuring TRIM support.

“In our quest to bring SSDs into mainstream use, we’re aiming to deliver a lower price point while boosting performance. The new SSDNow V Series 30GB Boot Drive accomplishes those goals,” said Ariel Perez, SSD business manager, Kingston. “Desktop users can extend the life cycle of their systems with this drive and IT managers in the enterprise space like it as there is less data for them to backup to the network. In addition, we will also release a 30GB SSD twin-pack for prosumers and enthusiasts who want to take performance to the next level.”

Designed for users looking to take advantage of the performance boost that an SSD will enable on a desktop computer system, the 30GB drive offers read speeds of 180MB/s, while the write performance has been set to 50MB/s. The drive will be available in a 2.5-inch form factor and the company will even offer a special desktop bundle, which includes 3.5-inch mounting Brackets and a cloning software that will allow users clone their operating system directly on the Kingston SSD.

Announced just days after Intel launched its 40GB SSD model, the new Kingston SSDNow V-series is expected to be available for less than US$85, at launch. For that, you'll get a performance-enhancing drive with TRIM support and an optional desktop bundle, which is US$15 more.
