The Darkness II, Metal Gear HD Collection and FIFA 12 in the top five

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the open-world action title from publisher Electronic Arts and developers at 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, has managed to take the number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart for the week that ended on February 11, ahead of Final Fantasy XIII-2.

The new mix between action and role playing might never reach the popularity of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but Kingdoms of Amalur has benefited from a well-chosen launch window and managed to sell enough copies to top the chart.

Final Fantasy XIII-2, the Japanese role-playing game from Square Enix, has managed to keep second place in the United Kingdom, beating another new release, The Darkness II, from Digital Extremes and 2K Games.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which Konami published exclusively on the PlayStation 3, has slid down two places, arriving in fourth coming from second, while FIFA 12, the football simulation from EA Sports, is continuing to perform very well, given its September 2011 launch date, by going down just one place to reach fifth.

Battlefield 3, the first-person shooter from DICE and Electronic Arts, is in sixth, down no less than three chart positions. But the companies behind it can celebrate the fact that it has managed to sell better than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, from Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard, which holds steady in seventh.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, published and developed internally at Ubisoft, has also lost places to reach eighth place, while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the open-world action and role-playing mix from Bethesda, is on ninth, probably ready for a bounce after the launch of the 1.4 patch.

The United Kingdom top ten is closed down by Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games from SEGA, while Just Dance 3 and Saints Row: The Third are out of the top ten.
