Activision resurrected Sierra Games, and it seems to be firing on all cylinders, working on the reboot to the classic King's Quest series.

While it's certainly debatable how much of the flair of the original games will be captured by the modern edition of the role-playing adventure, and what will be lost in the translation to modern gaming, there is plenty of potential to deliver an experience to remember.

The team behind the project has decided to let everyone know what their goals are with King's Quest, and the first in a series of four developer diaries has surfaced on the Internet.

In the video, King's Quest Creative Director Matt Korba and Producer Lindsey Rostal discuss the game's legacy and explain the general design direction that will drive the title's development, providing some extra details on what we should expect.

Apparently, one of the big things that the King's Bounty reboot is aiming to pull off is present a crafted cinematic experience, through the use of shiny modern 3D graphics, conveying the magic of the original King's Quest series for a new audience, and allowing old timers to relive some of the notable moments of their childhood.

A classic tale reimagined

The video, as expected, features plenty of the marketing fluff meant to build up hype around the game, but it also exposes some of the game's assets, showing the general artistic direction taken and some gorgeous scenes.

They seem to be going for a general fairy tale vibe, with their endgame being a reimagined King's Quest, rather than a simple iteration in the series.

Developer The Odd Gentlemen has an intimidating task at hand, as the King's Quest franchise spans almost a decade and a half, with around fifteen different games released, both in the main series and as spin-offs.

We'll keep up with the development process of the King's Quest: Your Legacy Awaits and share more details once they're available, as no doubt a lot of gamers would really like this one to be good.

The game is slated for release later this year, headed to Windows PCs, the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One home consoles.
