The launch of a new Android – running tablet or eBook reader (or tablet/eBook reader combo) is not exactly a major event nowadays (rather, something quite ordinary), but we'll have to admit that there's really something special about the Kineo Android Tablet / eBook reader from Brainchild, since this thing has been specifically designed in order to cater to the needs of students. What makes the Kineo stand apart from other Android tablets out there is the fact that it can only access websites that are pre-programmed by the administrator or teacher, while messaging capabilities have also been disabled to make sure that students use it for learning, not texting.

The 7-inch device features a 800 x 480 super heavy-duty touch screen rated to handle 500,000 impressions and is built around an 800Mhz dual core CPU, accompanied by 2GB of internal storage, 256 DDR RAM and a 4500 mAh battery that runs for 10-12 hours.

The device also offers 802.11b/g WiFi networking, plus plenty of connectivity options, including HDMI high definition video/audio out, stereo output, USB, Headphones and a SD Card Slot.

“Learning devices need to enhance instruction, not be a distraction. With over 15 years of experience in developing handhelds and software for schools, we know how to make a tablet device suited to a teacher’s needs for individualized instruction,” said Jeff Cameron, president of Brainchild, who continued by saying that “teachers can be confident that Kineo is a secure and safe handheld instructional device because Kineo removes the temptation for students to text or surf.”

“A classroom full of Kineos is easy to manage and a worry-free way to use Internet-based learning programs like Achiever! A teacher can have full confidence that when her students are working on Kineos, they are on task and won’t get into trouble,” Mr. Cameron concluded.

The Kineo will be put up for pre-order starting today, the estimated pricing being set at 299.99 US dollars, slated for a March delivery.
